The road to Hana is an excellent way to explore Maui. This can be a popular tourist activity, but many people are discouraged because of the long, curvy road that leads to Hana. The road to Hana is known to be one of the most spectacular drives that you will ever see, traveling through forests, streams, waterfalls, flowers, and over more than fifty one lane bridges. You can either take a guided tour in a van that will take you up the road to Hana, or you can be even more adventurous and take the trip on your own. This can be nice because you can stop where you want to and when you want to without having someone else planning your trip.
Hiking is another way to explore Maui in a way that not every visitor will be able to experience. You can choose to take a hike on your own after consulting maps and hiking guides, or you can actually hire a guide to take you on a hike. Whichever you choose you will not regret for people often forget that the inside of the island can be just as beautiful as the coastline. You can see waterfalls, streams, rainforests, volcano craters, and even ancient Hawaiian villages.
I have learned that the best way to discover the untold secrets of an area you are traveling to is to become friendly with the locals. This is always difficult because you are a tourist, and you need to be sensitive to the fact that some people may not like the idea of you finding the spots specifically meant for those who live there. However, if you talk to the right person, you just may find a little piece of paradise that you may never have known existed.
